You're tired of carrying it all on your own.
Maybe you're newly postpartum, trying to hold yourself together for your baby. Maybe you're preparing for birth, but unsure who to trust. Or maybe you're working in a space that supports families, and you want to do more - but aren't sure how to shift the system.
You want care that feels like care. Support that's not just informative but affirming.
A space that sees you - and hold you.
We meet you where you are, and walk with you toward where you want to go.

About Alma y Raíz
Hi I'm Kimberly Polanco, a Bilingual Social Worker, Doula and Educator based in NYC and the heart behind Alma y Raiz.
I started this practice because I come from a line of women who gave everything to their families but had no support for themselves. My mother and grandmother both experienced postpartum depression, and no one knew how to help them - not even the systems that were supposed to. Their pain, silence, and resilience planted a seed in me. I built Alma y Raíz to be the kind of space they needed - and that so many still need today.
What we Believe
At Alma y Raíz, our mission is to provide culturally affirming, healing centered care for individuals and families navigating reproductive health, birth, postpartum, and parenting.
We believe that everyone deserves care that honors thier identity, culture, and lived experience. Our name means "soul and root", and that's what we're here to nurture - your soul, your community, and the roots you are growing into or healing from.
Through direct services, education, and organizational consulting, we strive to dismantle systemic barriers, in perinatal care and uplift practices that center justice, language accessibility, and lived culture of our communities

Our Values
We value care that is rooted, relational, and restorative. Our work is grounded in the belief that everyone deserves to be met with dignity, respect, and compassion-especially during life's most vulnerable and transformative moments.
We Value Cultural Humility
Listening deeply, honoring your lived experience, and making space for you to show up fuly in their language, identity, and truth
We Value Justice and Accessibility
We are actively working to dismantle systemic barriers and co-create spaces where birth, parenting, and healing are safe, supported, and affirming for BIPOC, immigrant, and marginalized communities.
We Value Community Care over Individualism
We recognize that healing is collective and that no one should have to navigate systems alone.

Creating a space for you to slow down, honor boundaries, and building a practice that supports both clients and practitioners long-term
